High River RCMP have charged a 36-year-old local man with second-degree murder following the death of a woman earlier this week.
Police responded twice to a residence on 112 Street East in High River on Tuesday evening after receiving reports of a disturbance.
The first call, placed by the suspect shortly before 6 p.m., involved allegations concerning the victim. Officers investigated the claims and determined they were unfounded.
The suspect called police again at 9:28 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 36-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to High River General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
RCMP arrested 36-year-old Jarrett Stobbe at the scene. The victim is identified by police as Cayla Bleeker. Both are residents of High River.
Stobbe has a prior criminal history in Alberta, including a 2013 conviction for assault. Several other charges, including uttering threats to cause bodily harm and assault with a weapon, were later withdrawn.
Stobbe remains in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Okotoks on July 31.
