A former running back for the Calgary Stampeders, Rick Galbos has passed away at 75. His death was announced by the club on social media today.
He played for the Calgary Stampeders from 1973 and 1977, and served as a blocking back for Canadian Football Hall of Famer Willie Burden, who set a franchise record for yards in 1975, which still stands today, with 1,896. Burden had passed in 2015.
Over the course of his Stampeder career, Galbos rushed 277 times for 1,244 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 172 receptions for 2,016 yards and eight more touchdowns. Rick joined the Montreal Alouettes late in the ’77 season and was part of the Grey Cup win.
Rick was also a coach for the University of Calgary Dinos.
