Curb side recycling on its way smaller Foothills County communities

By Ben Gerow Aug 19, 2026 | 9:05 AM

The county has announced that if you get curbside garbage removal, blue bins for recycling will soon be coming to your community. The new blue bins have officially arrived in the county but distribution plans for the residencies are still in the works.

If you live in Blackie, Cayley, Aldersyde, Silvertip or Hawk’s Landing, you will have your bins by the end of September.

The list of recyclable items is also expanding, for both blue bin recycling and the High River Recycle Centre. Information about what can be recycled and how to handle recycled materials can be found here.

Producers are being pushed to take more responsibility for the packaging and waste they create, and that’s leading to curbside recycling rolling out in smaller towns and hamlets across Alberta.

The program is funded by industry and not taxpayers, and run by Circular Materials, a national non-profit. You can check them out here.

The move comes after a federal directive to boost recycling rates and make better use of waste materials. For municipalities, it also means one less cost to shoulder.
