Alberta producers originally had until April 30th to enroll in the 2026 AgriStability program, which provides coverage for large declines in farming income, and covers 80% of losses beyond a 30% decline from producers historical reference margin. Expanded allowances can also help producers with livestock feed, and pasture costs in 2026.
AgriStability is under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).
Originally, Albertan producers had until April 30th to enroll, but excessive moisture conditions past that date, have left many producers with a decline in crop. Now, the Alberta government gas opened late participation for the 2026 AgriStability program, and producers can now enroll until October 1st.
In addition, the interim payment for 2026 has been increased by 50 percent to 75 percent of the estimated final payment. A 20 per cent reduction (penalty) applies to any AgriStability benefit for producers who enroll during the late participation period. Producers can sign up for AgriStability and access benefits through the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation.
Farmers who missed the initial deadline are encouraged to apply, and late participation is subject to a reduced benefit, and factors like income, expense increases or reduced inventory are all used to help determine your potential benefit. Producers will also be required to pay the upfront fee by October 1.
