The Alberta government is restoring some private property rights for producers by removing Water Act approval requirements.
As it stands currently, Albertan farmers feel they are facing unnecessary barriers regarding how they manage their water, which includes having a seasonal wetland, or pooling water.
The province says the changes should help farmers cultivate, seed, spray, ditch, drain and infill on their own land without going through approval processes.
No specific date has been given, but it’s expected that amendments to the Water Regulation and Alberta Wetland Policy are coming in the fall.
