Recovery Day coming to three Alberta communities

By Darrell Stranger Sep 3, 2026 | 12:32 PM

Every September, communities across Canada come together to celebrate recovery from addiction, reduce stigma and make support more visible.

This month is no different as there will be free, family-friendly events happening in Edmonton, Calgary and Red Deer.

Each event will feature musical performances by some of Canada’s iconic artists alongside food trucks, kids activities and free health information.

Churchill Square in Edmonton will host the first event on Sept. 19 from 12-5 p.m. Bif Naked and Sloan are set to rock the stage at that event.

The following day on Sept. 20, Tom Cochrane will headline the Calgary event and finally, Trooper will perform at Red Deer city hall on Sept. 26.

The Last Door Recovery Society is one of many organizations working to improve the lives of those in recovery and they are involved in assisting with Recovery Day.

Ryan Gilfillan is the Society’s program director and he spoke with Darrell Stranger about the events, the goal of Recovery Day and his hopes for the future.
