The Alberta August Labour Force Survey numbers dropped, and is showing a 3.6 percent increase in the number of people employed, versus August of 2025.
Figures provided by the Alberta government show just over 2.6 million residents employed since August.
Despite the year-over-year increase, the number of jobs dropped from July to August, and indicated 8,900 jobs provincially and more than 40,000 jobs nationally.
For private sector jobs, the number climbed by 8,700, but fell by more than 12,000 in the public sector, and more than 5,000 more that were self-employed.
The province’s unemployment rate actually moved by two tenths, from 7% to 6.8%, while the national percentage was 6.4%.
