With free admission to parks and historical sites across Canada coming to an end on September 7th, the Town of Banff is hoping the Canada Strong Pass will not return next summer.
The Canada Strong Pass granted free access to the countries national parks and historical sites, but according to officials, was a contributing factor to the towns congestion and traffic around parking lots and road networks. Just over August long weekend of this year, nearly 130,000 vehicles came through Banff’s two entrances.
According to the towns statistics, the longest a driver was stick in traffic from the Banff Avenue Entrance to downtown was over 20 minutes. For the entire month of July, the two main entrances in Banff recorded almost 900,00 visitors, almost a four percent increase from July of 2025.
The towns mayor said they would be interested in bringing the Canada Strong Pass back for the Christmas season, which is traditionally a slower economic time for the town.
