Calgary police have begun a pilot program sending two Skydio X10 drones to certain calls in the city’s northeast and southeast.
The aircraft will stream live aerial video to officers so they can assess developing situations more clearly and choose the best course of action.

According to CPS, when a call comes in, a trained officer, who is also a certified drone pilot, can launch one remotely.
In some cases the drone will reach the scene ahead of ground units, giving early insight that helps officers spot hazards, find people involved and make better tactical decisions.
While the service has employed drones for years in support of emergencies, searches and investigations, the new Drone as First Responder approach lets the aircraft respond directly to selected calls and supply information in the critical early minutes of an incident.
