Alberta is expanding its publicly funded protection against respiratory viruses this fall, including new RSV coverage for some vulnerable adults and antibodies for newborns.
The province’s program covers influenza, COVID-19 and RSV, with appointments available to book starting October 5.
Flu shots will be free to Albertans six months and older through pharmacies, public health clinics and outreach services.
Starting October 1, RSV immunization will also be available to additional vulnerable adults aged 18 to 69 with certain serious medical conditions, including transplant recipients, people receiving dialysis and those requiring chronic oxygen therapy.
Newborns will also have added protection, with RSV antibodies offered to babies born in hospital between November and April.
COVID-19 immunization remains free for eligible Albertans aged 12 and older, including seniors, pregnant Albertans and people at higher risk of severe illness.
Appointments can be booked online, through Health Link at 811, or directly with participating pharmacies.
The province says immunization can help reduce serious illness and hospitalizations during respiratory virus season.
