A year after six-year-old Darius Macdougall vanished in the Crowsnest Pass wilderness, his family returned Monday to the Island Lake Campground where he was last seen, still hoping for answers.
On Sept. 21, 2025, the boy and relatives left their campsite for a short walk about four kilometres south of Crowsnest Pass. When the group returned, Darius was gone.
He has autism and, though verbal, may not answer to his name.
Hundreds of searchers from Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan spent 11 days combing the area before the formal effort ended with no trace of him.RCMP say the investigation continues behind the scenes, with officers reviewing leads and assessing more than 70 public tips received so far.
“Investigators remain focused on… identifying any information that may help provide answers.”
An online petition called “Darius’s Law” seeks changes to Canada’s Amber Alert system, a push that gained fresh interest after the case of another autistic child, 11-year-old Parker Wells, who disappeared in Calgary and was later found deceased.
An alert was eventually issued for Wells but not for MacDougall.
