During a council meeting late Monday, Mayor Morgan Nagel says a stretch of 60km/h road along Highway 22 through the town is “ridiculously slow”, and is putting forward a notice of motion to town council to take a closer look at the issue.
The stretch of road between Quigley Drive and Sunset Boulevard could be increased to 80km/h, but the discussion remains informal at this point. The motion would have to come before council, and if approved, feedback would be sought from town admin, and residents before any other steps take place.
Monday night, Mayor Nagel released an informal poll on Facebook, which received mixed reactions. One resident brought up the fact that large semi trucks often have to use heavy brakes, and engine braking to deal with the speed slowdown. It’s being argued by Nagel that similar roads in Calgary already sit at 80km/h.
