Albertans now have access to a new online guide that helps them determine when to start screening for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer. This initiative is part of the province’s efforts to raise awareness about the importance of early detection.
The interactive guide, launched by Primary Care Alberta’s Screening Programs, is available at screeningforlife.ca. It is designed to assist individuals in navigating screening recommendations and understanding when they should get tested.
“This new online guide gives Albertans clear, accessible information to help them understand when to get screened and take an important step in protecting their health,” said Minister of Primary and Preventive Health Services Justin Wright.
The province offers screening programs for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers to reduce the number of cases and deaths associated with these diseases. The launch coincides with October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting that breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Canada.
Starting in fall 2026, mailed invitations and reminders will be phased out wherever possible, with information instead being delivered through MyChart, the online platform available through MyHealth Alberta. This change aims to make it easier for patients to review messages, alerts, and results, track their screening history, and receive reminders to book appointments.
Albertans who can use the platform and have not already signed up are encouraged to create a MyChart account by visiting myhealth.alberta.ca/help/KB/setting-up-myhealth-records.
