As the hunting season continues, hunters are being reminded to check access rules, and take precautions to protect people, livestock and property.

Rocky View County says hunters should be confirming where hunting is permitted, and obtain the relevant permits to do so. Especially when private land, farms and ranches are involved, many of which don’t have clear gates to mark an entry.

Hunting is also no permitted in all provincial parks and recreation areas, so hunters should be checking the requirements for their intended hunting spot ahead of time. Rules for hunting vary throughout provincial Crown land, so using hunting apps or maps can help hunters confirm access rules and areas.

Rocky View County is also reminding hunters to check their firearms license requirements, confirm season dates and double check regulations before heading out. Hunting will impaired by drugs or alcohol is also generally unsafe, and hunters should always identify their target, and why lies beyond the target before taking a shot.

Many areas include livestock, farming equipment, and active agricultural operations. Hunters can encounter these areas at any time, and the County is encouraging everyone to avoid crops and equipment, keep access roads clear, and leave gates as-is. Landowners can do their part as well, by clearly marking boundaries, and establishing expectations with local hunters.
