Country music fans in Calgary and area will have to make other plans next summer. Country Thunder Alberta has confirmed it will not be returning to Calgary in 2027.
Organizers thanked the artists, fans, crews and local partners who helped make the festival possible over the past 10 years.
Organizers also pointed Alberta country music fans toward Big Valley Jamboree, saying they look forward to welcoming them back next summer.
The announcement comes after a difficult year for the festival. Country Thunder 2026 was cancelled on June 24, just two days before it was scheduled to kick off at The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland in the city. It was supposed to be the festival’s first time taking place in June, moving away from its traditional August dates following the Calgary Stampede.
At the time, organizers blamed ongoing construction around the site, reduced access along Ninth Avenue S.E., the loss of key festival infrastructure and new sound restrictions imposed by the City of Calgary.
Country Thunder will continue in three locations in 2027: Craven, Saskatchewan; Florence, Arizona; and Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.
Big Valley Jamboree has already announced its 2027 dates: July 29 to August 1 in Camrose. Its announced headliners include Jon Pardi, Alabama and Luke Bryan, with Josh Ross kicking off Thursday night.
