Median crossings along Highway 2 are closing, as safety concerns continue to mount in the busy corridor. It was announced Thursday, October 29th that the median crossing at 306 Avenue, 338 Avenue, and 370 Avenue will close. The decision was made by Highwood MLA and Minister of Affordability and Utilities RJ Sigurdson, as well as Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen.
In the meantime, access gates will be set up for maintenance crossovers in the event of an emergency, highway crews, as well as local farmers. The closure comes as a result of regional partners calling for the provincial government to commit to funding for an interchange along Highway 2 and 338 Avenue.
Reps from Foothills County, Okotoks, Foothills School Division, High River, Nanton and Diamond Valley gathered yesterday for a morning of solidarity for those affected by the highway. Okotoks Mayor Tanya Thorn spoke, and said that a properly designed interchange would help provide motorists with more safe options.
