As it stands, there is no indications that southern Alberta residents specifically have had their information leaked, but the Lethbridge Police Service says it’s suspending it’s participation within the program, until the investigation into the data breach is complete. The breach took place last March, from Navigate 360.
For now, Calgary Police say they will continue with the program, and cited new safety measures. Police services in Saskatchewan and Ontario have also removed themselves from the program, until the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has completed their investigation.
The Calgary Crime Stoppers website now displays a banner that warns potential tipsters to be cautious regarding the personal information they include. Anyone with concerns about their privacy and personal information should contact Crime Stoppers directly.
