The Second annual Lead by Example Powwow is returning to the Town of Strathmore bigger than ever as it will be taking place at the Strathmore & District Agricultural Grounds.
The goal of powwow is to help build stronger bonds between Siksika and the Town of Strathmore after a tragic event which took place in 2019 where one son was murdered and another incarcerated.
As a way of healing for the communities of Siksika, Town of Strathmore, and the Ayoungman Family a memorial Powwow for Kristen Ayoungman was held in the summer of 2023 which was met with overwhelming support.
On February 16, 2024, in response to that support the Kataok’si Kristen Ayoungman Foundation was established and planning for the next Powwow began.
Mother of Kristen Ayoungman and Co-founder of the Foundation Melodie Ayoungman-Hunt, explains why it is important to highlight the cooperation between the communities of Siksika and Strathmore instead of the negative.
The Powwow will include the season opener for the RedSky Relay League along with special performances from renowned drummers, dancers, and local musicians including Armond Duck Chief.
A special will also include the passing the Lead By Example Princess Crown from Kylerose Hunt.
The 2024 Lead by Example Powwow will start on June 7 and end on June 9.
