With only three weeks left for many post-secondary students in Alberta, many are getting ready to finish and attend their convocations to celebrate all their hard work.
As part of the Alberta University of the Arts’ (AUArts) plan towards reconciliation as an institution, they’ll be holding their first ever Indigenous Convocation at the annual Tsuut’ina Nation Powwow July 27, 2024.
Manger of Indigenous Initiatives at AU Arts Gitz Derange Crazy Boy shared, “Participating in the Tsuut’ina powwow celebration to recognize AUArts’ 2024 Indigenous graduates marks a powerful and healing moment within Treaty 7 that extends into the Blackfoot Confederacy,”
The partnership and collaboration between UA Arts and the Tsuut’ina Nation aims to address the painful historical legacies left by colonization and honour the Indigenous Peoples of Canada.
One of the many ways of healing is through education allowing many to lift themselves up for a better tomorrow.
Minor Chief of the Tsuut’ina Nation Steven Crowchild expressed the Nation’s excitement of the partnership saying, “We are excited to provide Alberta University of the Arts space to honour and recognize our next generation of Indigenous post-secondary graduates amongst the community during the 2024 Tsuut’ina Nation Annual Celebrations. Tsuut’ina Nation on commends AUArts for taking concrete steps towards Truth and Reconciliation through this groundbreaking and exciting special!”
Along with the convocation the University will be hosting a special at the powwow to honour of the graduates.
Details about the annual Tsuut’ina celebration can be found on the CJWE events calendar.
