On May 8, 2024, fans of the Calgary Stampeders had the opportunity to interact with past and present players at the annual Fanfest.
The day saw approximately a thousand of multi-generational fans come check out what is coming up for the 2024 CFL season in Calgary along with purchasing tickets for the upcoming season.
Community was the center focus of the 2024 Stampeder Fanfest and was the first time the celebration on the field of McMahon stadium since 2019 before the COVID-19 Lockdown.
The theme of unity was echoed as various Calgary teams including the Calgary Surge and Calgary’s Women Tackle Football Team the Rush where in attendance to help promote a sense of unity among Calgary’s sport teams along side the Stamps and teams owned by the The Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation.
Former Stampeder and Newly appointed President of the Stamp Jay McNeil explains why it is important for everyone to feel welcome when they attend a game at McMahon Stadium.
Off the field, the Stamps volunteer in the community and last year they had spent a total of 570 hours serving the city of Calgary, which also included supporting 55 various charities, and raised well over $600,000 dollars for charity.
Serving the community is part of the Stamps identity as it honors players who distinguish themselves through community through the memory of the Herm Harrison Memorial Award which was instituted in 2014 in honor of the late CFL Hall of Famer Herm “Ham Hands” Harrison.
For 2023, the award was awarded to Reggie Begelton who is an active member of the community and visits both Calgary Ronald McDonald House and Alberta Children’s Hospital before home games.
The Stamps first home game will be against the BC Lions on May 25 and will be hosting an Indigenous Celebration night on September 14.
